To get along with the loss of our girlfriends we needed a shot of liqueur! Just kidding! A guy recommended us a distillery tour at St. George Spirits in Alameda. From the airport we crossed San Francisco and went to the old military base of Alameda. The interesting tour lasted about two hours and ended with a little tasting.
At evening we met our friend Amina in an indoor mini golf hall at city centre. We had a lot of fun and bet that the loser has to pay for ice cream. Peppi had the luck to invite Amina and Kali in the best ice saloon in town. We walked around, visited some stores and went for dinner to a Burma restaurant. The line for waiting people was long, but it was really worth it. Never had such a delicious meal for a long time!
Afterwards we joined Amina meting a friend at a bar in Oakland. We felt comfortable in the beer garden, met some other guys (“Welcome to the bay!”), had some drinks and played darts. Close to 2:00 am we came back to our van. Overnight parking wasn’t allowed there, so we tried to get some hours sleep at a Walmart parking lot.
Next morning we met Amina at Lake Merritt in Oakland. We hadn’t had breakfast before, so we drank coffee at the parking lot. A guy, who thought our van is a food truck, was very interested in our travels. He gave us the book from John Steinbeck “Travels with Charley – In Search of America”. Steinbeck wrote about his travels in the 1950s and 1960s discovering America. The guy said, maybe we also have our stories to tell after our travels and we should write a book. Let’s see!
Lake Merritt, the green oases of Oakland, fits perfectly to the city centre. Hundreds of people made sports, had a picnic or just relaxed around the lake. We walked around and listened to a free orchestra for a few minutes. Afterwards we bought groceries and went to her apartment, which she shares with another person, at San Leandro. It was quite hot that day. So we went swimming at a public pool next to the apartments.
Amina prepared delicious dinner and we hang up at their couch watching Simpsons and Bobs Burgers. It was Sunday night and she had to be at work next morning. Time to say good bye! We enjoyed that two days so much. This girl is always in a good mood and never gets tired. It was a pleasure to meet this nice, funny and open minded girl!
